El Examen[
Final Exam] could be described as the author’s second novelistic experiment after
Divertimento, which he had completed a year earlier. Although he was not well known, by the time he finished
El ExamenCortázar had already published a collection of poems (
Presencia, under the pseudonym Julio Denis), and
Los Reyes[
The Kings].
Whilst he would not attempt to publish
Divertimentoduring his lifetime, he had high hopes for
El Examen. However, his efforts were in vain; the manuscript
