Born in Montreal on April 3, 1948, Monique LaRue is a francophone writer, holding degrees in both philosophy and literature (see note 1). These two complementary areas pervade her fictional texts and make her writing styles vary considerably (Rochon). In fact, because of her ability to draw from the two distinct fields of inquiry, her writing has the merit of deploying a refined sense of wonder and an impressive intertextual grid. Combined with her writing career, her experience as a French high school teacher helped her to construct the complex plot of her fifth novel,
La Gloire de Cassiodore(2002), which weaves a network of social and literary interaction in the pre‑university microcosm.
