Uzma Aslam Khan’s

Thinner Than Skin

(2012) was the winner of the French Embassy Prize for the Best Fiction at the Karachi Literature Festival in 2014. Through her sensual and rich writing, Khan depicts the complex interlacing of human and natural life. As Razeshta Sethna notes while appreciating the nature-driven aura of the narrative, “the novel delves into the emotions of grief and love as the author attempts to show how lives are unravelled without warning and individuals shaped by their environment” (2013).

Set within the rich cultural and geographical landscape of Pakistan’s Northern areas, the novel is mesmerizing and edgy, packed with suspense, romance, foreboding, and remorse. The setting is fascinatingly phantasmagoric - such as the majestic presence of Nanga Parbat
