Husain M. Naqvi grew up in many different countries, including Pakistan, Algeria and the United States. He graduated from Georgetown University and for many years followed a dual career, working in finance and as a writer. He also ran a poetry slam venue, won the Phelan Prize for poetry, taught creative writing at Boston University, and participated in the 2010 International Writing Programme at Iowa University (Shamsie, 460).

H. M. Naqvi’s novel Home Boy (2009), which won the inaugural DSC Prize for South Asian literature, is the story of three young “Metrostanis” – AC, Jimbo, and Chuck (whose real names are Ali Chaudhry, Jamshed Khan, and Shehzad) – who, although hardly model citizens, are well-integrated into New York City life as an academic, DJ, and banker, respectively.
