Nature of the collected texts, and themes

In May 2021 Rushdie published a new collection of nonfiction entitled Languages of Truth, containing texts originally written between 2003 and 2020. Some had been published in newspapers or magazines, some were introductions to books by other authors, others were spoken as lectures and never published. However, all those texts were thoroughly revised and updated for this publication. The collection displays Rushdie’s erudition and wit, and the fact that he is just as knowledgeable about Eastern art and history as about Western art and literature. But whether he is giving a commencement address to university students or dissecting the making of the 16th century Hamzanama, the underlying themes are never far: the assertion that our identities are
