In September 2024 Graham Swift’s short story “Beauty” was published in the
Atlantic. A critically acclaimed novelist who came to prominence in the 1980s, Swift is less recognised for short fiction: in a career which now spans over four decades he has published eleven novels but only two short-fiction collections, namely
Learning to Swim and Other Stories(1982) and
England and Other Stories(2014). While the latter was followed by two novels,
Mothering Sunday(2016) and
Here We Are(2020), Swift’s most recent publications have all been short stories. Published in
