fulfill such expectations. This Indo-Anglian work of fiction has not only been critically acclaimed in India and abroad but has also reached readers of different nationalities through its many translations. Further, this novel, perhaps the author's best-known, has won him a prestigious award from the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, and has also been re-presented as an award-winning film of the same name in Hindi, the Indian national language.
