A Child’s Historywere sold and marketed as Christmas gift books—ornate duodecimo volumes, featuring an illustrated, gold-embossed cover, red cloth boards, marbled endpapers and edges, a specially arranged “Table of Dates”, and an elaborate frontispiece illustrated by F. W. Topham.
