Andrea Zanzotto was one of the most important Italian poets of the second half of the twentieth century. A figure of European and international stature, his intellectual concerns combine the global and the local. His poetry, however, is firmly rooted in his native Veneto, an area that has undergone a rapid and chaotic transformation from an agricultural and artisanal economy to one based on industry, tourism and consumerism.
